Abstract
The culture of reading literacy which is also a language skill can be built from small places such as classrooms. One language skill that is increasingly important in entering the 21st century is reading. Reading in language skills is one of the receptive skills. One type of reading that is very vital in cognitive development is reading comprehension. By reading understanding, it will help in building a culture of literacy that can be started from these classrooms. Therefore we need an appropriate learning method to support that goal. The purpose of this study was to improve the reading power of students in building a culture of literacy through the application of the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) for students of Early Childhood Education at the University of Lampung as many as 29 students in one class. Data collection techniques through observation, questionnaires, tests and documentation. The research methodology used is action research (Action Research) in 2 cycles consisting of Planning, Implementation, Observation and Reflection. Based on the results of the study that the SQ3R method can improve students' reading power in building a culture of literacy in the classroom.
