Abstract

The purpose of this review is to explore and study the feasibility of amending the soil with biochar and to assess impact on its chemical, physical, and biological properties. Soil pH, organic carbon, total N, K, Ca, Mg, and cation exchange capacity increased by applying biochar at an increasing rate. Bulk density, porosity, and water-holding capacity of the soil amended by biochar significantly changed, with better quality for crop roduction. The effects of biochar addition on soil biota vary, depending on the kind of biota existing in the environment.
