Abstract

ABSTRACT Measurement of heterosis and evaluate the activities of yield and quality in cucumber plant which will be developed into a hybrid variety is important information to see the advantages of these plants before being released into hybrid varieties. This study aimed to evaluate the reciprocal hybrids by measuring the value of heterosis and the level of similarity with the parents. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Integrated Field Unila with altitude of ± 144 m above sea level in February and April 2016. The study was conducted by randomized block design with three replications. The treatments were cucumber Mercy parent, Toska parent, hybrid Mercy x Toska, hybrid Toska x Mercy. Data were tested with Least Significant Increase 5% to see the difference in performance of hybrids with parent and followed by calculating the value of heterosis and cluster analysis. The results showed that both hybrids had positive heterosis value in the long fruit parameter, fruit diameter, weight per fruit, fruit weight per plant and yield of fruit per hectare. Hybrids Toska x Mercy has the advantage on the sweetness of fruit with a positive value of heterosis and more similar to parent Toska and level of crispness better than the hybrid Mercy x Toska.
