Abstract

Tree species developed by farmers with agroforestry patterns vary. The study aimed to describe farmers' knowledge about tree species selection in agroforestry systems based on biophysical, landscape, and socioeconomic considerations using the Local User Value Index (LUVI) approach. This research was conducted in February 2021 with a case study in four Forest Farmer Group Associations (Gapoktan), namely Gapoktan Hijau Makmur, Gapoktan Mahardika, and Gapoktan Cempaka in the Batutegi Protected Forest Management Unit, Lampung Province. Data collection was conducted by focus group discussion and structured interviews with questionnaires. Based on the study's results, socioeconomic factors score the highest in selecting tree species planted by farmers. In this factor, the type of tree that has the highest LUVI value in Gapoktan Hijau Makmur is Jengkol (Archidendron pauciflorum), in Gapoktan Mahardika is Clove (Syzigium aromaticum), and Gapoktan Cempaka is Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis). The highest LUVI value on biophysical factors, which is the second consideration in tree species selection, is Jengkol for Gapoktan Hijau Makmur and Gapoktan Mahardika, while for Gapoktan Cempaka is Dadap (Erythrina variegata). The landscape factor has the lowest consideration score, with the tree species that have the highest LUVI values being Jengkol for Gapoktan Hijau Makmur, Clove for Gapoktan Mahardika, and Rubber for Gapoktan Cempaka.
