Abstract
Textbooks have not been used optimally by both students and teachers in the process of understanding multi-cultural, education and citizenship subjects at SMP Negeri 1 Jati Agung, South Lampung Regency for the 2020/2021 academic year. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of the SQ3R method (survey, question, read, recite, review) with a scientific inquiry approach to improve multicultural understanding. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR) with a procedure consisting of three cycles, each cycle which includes planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, literature studies, and documentation studies. The subjects of this study were 48 students of class VIII D at SMP Negeri 1 Jati Agung, South Lampung Regency for the 2020/2021 academic year. The results showed that the use of textbook literacy with the SQ3R method could improve students' multicultural understanding. Increasing understanding of multiculturalism is a learning process from quite to good. This has an impact on one way to maintain the process of students' multicultural understanding of the life of a pluralistic society.
