Abstract
Introduction. Active learning is a learning concept that has been used for a long time. Various active learning methods are available in the literature. The application of active learning in medical education is still limited at problem-based learning. Discussion. Various active learning methods already exist in the literature which are collaborative learning and large classes. Collaborative active learning includes problem-based learning, team-based learning, case-based learning, small group discussions, clinical skill laboratories and many more. Active learning in large group is modification of lectures, flipped classrooms, jigsaws and others. Lecturers act as facilitators, encourage students and provide feedback to students. Institutions play a role in providing funds, training lecturers, providing facilities and improving student SDL. Students are responsible for their learning, have the initiative and have good SDL skills to support active learning. The implementation of active learning also encountered obstacles including in terms of time, funds, resources and student characteristics. Conclusion. There are many active learning methods that can be applied, the role of all parties is needed to develop active learning in an institution.
