Abstract

Learning stereochemistry today, especially on the topic of conformational stability, seems to generalize “anti  staggered  eclipsed  fully eclipsed conformations” as a general stability order for all open-chain organic molecules. This condition may arise because many organic chemistry textbooks only used simple non-polar molecule, like propane and buthane as examples to explain this topic, without any clarification for polar one. On the other hand, teaching this topic seems not to be focused on how endorse students to discover the concepts, but only used explanation qualitatively. This study proposes a simple computer-based technique to study the conformational stability order of molecules.
