Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the differences in the variation in growth characters and yields of some genotypes sorghum, to calculate the correlation between growth components and yield of several sorghum genotypes, and determine the direct effect between observed growth variables and yield by using path analysis. Five sorghum genotypes (GH-4, GH-6, GH-7, GH-9, and Numbu) were arranged using the Complete Randomized Group (RAKL) with 3 replications. The results showed that genotypes GH -6 (225,3 cm) and GH-7 (218,1 cm) had a stem length of 17 MST which was higher than genotypes GH-4 (193,0 cm), GH-9 (177, 2 cm) and Numbu (154,7 cm). Then the genotypes GH-9 (73,9 g) and GH-6 (62,0 g) had higher seed weights than genotypes GH-7 (52,9 g), GH-4 (48,4 g) and Numbu (43,6 g). Based on the correlation analysis, it shows that in the growth component to growth there is a very significant positive correlation as shown by the variable length of 17 WAP of the stem to the number of leaves 17 WAP (r = 0,57 **) and the number of internodes 17 WAP (r = 0,68 **). The growth component to the yield component, namely 17 MST stem length, had a very significant positive correlation with panicle length (r = 0,41 **), number of branches (r = 0,37 **), and weight of bunches / head (r = 0,43 **), number of seeds (r = 0,51 **) and weight of seeds (r = 0,45 **). Then the correlation between yield components and other yield components was shown by the number of seeds which had a very significant positive correlation with grain weight (r = 0,94 **). There is a direct effect between the length of 17 WAP stem on seed weight (0,026), but it has a smaller direct effect than the direct effect on the number of seeds (0,343). Meanwhile, the number of seeds had the highest direct effect on seed weight (0,672) and was followed by 1000 grain weight (0,280). So that the characters recommended as indicators of superior genotype selection for sorghum are the number of seeds and the weight of 1000 grains. Keywords: Genotype, Growth, Yield, and Sorghum
