Abstract

This research was aimed to analyze the potential for marine tourism development strategy to face global competition in South Lampung. The Methods of data collection were using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the local governemnt had not had a specific strategy to develop marine tourism as a leading tourist area to face global competition. Some of the strategies recommended by the researchers were : planning the highlight of potential tourism destination; creating policies to provide opportunities and services for the stakeholders; the government shall cooperate with the community of marine tourism as a conscious group travel (Pokdarwis) and preparing qualified human resources as well as promoting maritime destination on an ongoing basis.
