Abstract

Cities are experiencing developments as a result of population growth, socio-economic and technological changes as well as interactions with other cities around them. The City Area Section (BWK) C which includes Sukarame District, Tanjung Senang District and Way Halim District which have experienced urban development internally and the influence of external developments with the existence of ITERA and the Trans Sumatra Toll Road. The dynamics of development and activities lead to the physical development of urban space and directly influence the development of urban spatial structures. It is feared that developments that occur can cause chaotic spatial planning problems. As a preventive measure, the aim of this study is to identify changes in urban spatial structure that occur in BWK C Bandar Lampung City due to the influence of internal and external city development. The benefits of this research are expected to provide an overview of the process of changing the shape of the urban spatial structure in terms of the activities of urban aspects and become a discourse for the city government of Bandar Lampung in making urban development policies in the future so that it can be more effective and efficient in the use of city space. The method used in this research is comparative descriptive analysis method, GIS overlay analysis, and analysis of the hierarchy of centrality index based on secondary data and field observations from 2010 to 2016. The trend towards the physical development of the built area in BWK C tends to be inward or in character interstitial, namely the existence of land intensification in the direction of being more compact, previously the morphological form of BWK C changed from a ribbon shape (Ribbon Shaped City) to a form of burial (Octopus Shaped City).
