Abstract

Parasite infestation in the digestive tract of mud buffalo can interfere with the health of livestock. This study aimed to determine the level of gastrointestinal protozoa infestation (Eimeria sp.) in mud buffalo (Bubalus bubalis Linn.) in Jati Agung Subdistrict so that it could be used as a reference and additional information for local governments, especially breeders, to control the disease caused by protozoa infestation. This research was conducted using a survey method. A total of 80 mud buffalo fecal samples were collected periodically during December 2019 in 6 villages in Jati Agung Subdistrict. The data used was primary data about the management of maintenance patterns taken using a questionnaire and the results of examination of fecal samples at the Parasitology Laboratory of the Lampung Veterinary Disease Investigation Center on the number of protozoa oocysts of the digestive tract (Eimeria sp.). Coccidiosis infestation rate due to protozoa Eimeria sp. in mud buffalo (Bubalus bubalis Linn.) in Jati Agung Subdistrict, South Lampung Regency was at 17.50% with the number of protozoan oocysts of Eimeria sp. in the stool was classified as a mild infestation. The low infestation of coccidiosis (Eimeria sp.) in mud buffalo was probably closely related to the feed (grass) withering before it was given to livestock. Key words: Coccidiosis, Eimeria sp., infestation level, mud bufallo, oocyst
