Abstract

The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the government to issue an emergency policy. One of these policies is the issuance of instructions to universities to carry out distance lectures online. However, what is the real role of online learning in increasing student enthusiasm for learning, so that the quality of learning can still be maintained? Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the perceptions and motivation of prospective chemistry teacher students in facing online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research design used is in the form of descriptive qualitative research where the research results are reported in the form of descriptions. The research was conducted on students of the Chemical Education Study Program, FKIP University of Lampung in 2017, 2018, and 2019. The research data was collected using a questionnaire via google form and learning record data in the datalog in online mode edusmart.fkip.unila.ac.id. and vclass.unila.ac.id. The results showed that (1) the interaction patterns of lecturers and students were quite good in terms of assigning assignments and discussions. However, it needs to be improved in terms of feedback and reflection on learning., (2) students' perceptions of online learning are less positive, as indicated by the number of students being disappointed with learning strategies during online learning which are considered less interactive., (3) students are still not motivated to take online lectures because they are constrained by signals and they seem to be only assignments, (4) the obstacles experienced by students during online learning are facilities and infrastructure, human resources, in this case, the lecturers as facilitators, and the learning process is less interactive
