Abstract

Thecoffeecultivationshiftingintoahigherelevationcanbeconsideredasa farmer’sbehavioraladaptationtotheclimatechangetofindanoptimum temperatureandmorefertilesoilforthecoffeegrowth.Thebehaviorisrampant forRobustacoffee(Coffeacanephora)plantersinLampungProvince,themain contributorareathatplacesIndonesiaasthesecondlargestcoffeebeanexporting countryformorethantwodecades. Thebehaviorcertainlycausesenvironmentaldeterioration,whilethepositive impacthasnotbeenwell-measured,evenforphysicalbeanperformancethat determineitsexportcompetitiveness.Thisstudyaimedtodeterminetheeffectof thebehaviorontwocoffeebeanphysicalindices,the1000-driedfruitweightor theindexof[W_1000],andthepercentageoffloatedfruituponwatersoakingor theindexof[FLOAT]. OrdinaryLeastSquareModelwasappliedatasignificancelevelof10%withthe twoindicesastheresponsevariables.Thepredictorvariableistheelevationarea, accompaniedbyslopesteepnessandareapositioninrelationtoitsexposure againstsolarradiation.ThefieldsurveylastedfromJunetoAugust2017.Riped coffeefruitsampleswerecollectedfrom32sites,rangingfrom300to1,170masl.
