Abstract

The effects of soil tillage and herbicide aplicationon on earthworm population were investigated in the integrated field laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, University of Lampung, Lampung. During the 3 yr study cassava and corn were grown annually. The experiment was designed using a completely randomized block design with two factors, i.e.; soil tillage systems that consist of full tillage (T1) and minimum tillage (T0) and herbicide application (H) that consists of herbicide (H1) and non-herbicide (H0). Herbicides with isopropylamine glyphosate + 2.4D active ingredient was applied at dosage of 160 mL per 16 L of water.Soil samples were taken using a monolith and earthworms were collected by hand sorting method at the beginning of growing, vegetative maximum and after harvest. The results showed that during the first growing season (2014) soil tillage showed no effect on the population and biomass of earthworms, but the application of herbicide affected earthworm population especially during the beginning of herbicide application. However, in the second and third growing seasons,earthworm population was only affect by soil tillage. The results of current study indicated that the earthworm population is determined by the growing seasons of crops.
