Abstract

The results showed that the proportion of Impaired Fasting Blood Glucose (IFBG) and Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) in rural area was higher than in urban areas, namely 3.7% and 5.4%. This shows that residents in rural areas are more at risk of developing type 2 diabetes if no intervention is carried out. This study aims to explore the perception of risk factors for type 2 DM, both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. This study uses a qualitative research design with a case study approach. The research was conducted in July–September 2020 in Bernung Village, Pesawaran, Lampung. The research subjects were 7 informants who met the inclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out by structured and in-depth interviews using interview guidelines. The validity of the data by triangulation and data analysis by thematic analysis. The results showed that the risk factors for patients with type 2 DM were lack of knowledge, old age/elderly, sweet foods, lack of movement or exercise and heredity or genetic factors. The results of this study are expected to be input for increasing education about prevention of type 2 DM by increasing community participation in the activities of the Pos Pembinaan Terpadu Penyakit Tidak Menular ( Posbindu PTM).
