Abstract

The availability of qualified seeds of sorghum is one factor supporting the optimal crops cultivation. Seed experiencing the deterioration caused of long periods of storage need to be improved by applying the priming treatment. The purpose of this study was to know the response of sorghum seeds of Numbu and UPCA-S1 that have been stored for 35 months under the temperature of 18 ºC to Polyethylene Glycol (PEG-6000 )priming with graded concentration from 0 to 20%. The research was conducted at the Seed and Plant Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung from April to May 2021. The study consisted of two experiments. Each experiment used a single factor PEG-6000 with fivelevels concentration with two replicates. The period of soaking in these priming solution was 24 hours. The effect of PEG on seed viability was seen with regression analysis by using software Minitab-17. The Results showed that response of seed germination to PEG-6000 concentration wes quadratic. Germination capacity of Numbu and UPCA-S1 seeds reached the maximum of 88% and 98% on the level concentration of PEG-6000 9% and 16%, respectively.
