Abstract

Osmopriming with CaCl2 salt solution can improve germination performance (refreshing seeds) that have experienced natural aging in storage. Priming duration and salt concentration are the components that affect the success of priming. This study aims to determine the most effective concentration of CaCl2 at different soaking times for osmopriming sorghum seeds. This study used a completely randomized block design with a factorial pattern (2x5) with 2 replications. The first factor is the length of immersion in CaCl2 solution, namely 12 hours and 24 hours. The second factor was the concentration of CaCl2 solution, namely 0 mM, 25 mM, 50 mM, 75 mM, and 100 mM. Data analysis used Bartlett test, Tukey test, analysis of variance, least significant difference test (BNT), and regression analysis, each of which was at 5% significance level. The results showed that immersion of sorghum seeds in CaCl2 solution for 24 hours gave a better effect than 12 hours of soaking, the optimal concentration of CaCl2 solution to improve the germination performance of sorghum seeds was 63 mM with a soaking time of 12 hours, while the duration of immersion for 24 hours was 59 mM.
