Abstract
Seed priming is the initial treatment of seeds to increase germination and plant vigor. Zinc (Zn) has an important role in plant growth, and Zn deficiency can cause symptoms such as chlorosis and abnormal growth. Nutripriming is a technique that involves soaking seeds in a nutrient solution to improve seed quality. Several recent studies have shown that priming seeds with Zn sulfate can increase growth and Zn content in crops such as rice and maize. This certainly has the potential to increase crop production, seed quality, and crop yields. This study had 3 treatments: control, nutripriming Zn 0.5%, and nutripriming Zn 1%. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with each treatment repeated 6 times. The total experimental units in this is 18 experimental units (experimental plot) with 14 purple corn plants for each plot. Based on the research results, it was found that the 0.5% nutripriming treatment increased plant metabolism which can be seen in a variable’s trend from the percentage of seed germination in the first week, trend in plant height, trend of total plant leaf, trend of leaf green level, and leaf assimilation rate per unit leaf area.
