Abstract

Abstract Traditional medicines are known among the people of Indonesia and have developed a lot into phytopharmaca. Syzygium myrtifolium Walp leaves are one of the ornamental plants that have many benefits because they contain antioxidants which can be anticancer. The use of the right dose is very important so that there is no damage to the structure of the organ. The liver is one of the largest digestive organs in the abdominal cavity and is one of the first organs exposed to toxic substances. One of the damage to the liver histopathological structure that is often found is dilatation of the hepatic sinusoids. Dilation of hepatic sinusoids can occur due to changes in hepatocyte cells (degeneration to necrosis). The ethanol extract of Syzygium myrtifolium Walp leaves was given orally to the 2000 mg/kgBW dose group and the 5000 mg/kgBW dose group once. Parameters observed were liver histopathological features which were quantified using a scoring system. Histopathological observations found extensive dilation of the hepatic sinusoids in the 2000 mg/kgBW and 5000 mg/kgBW groups. Then statistical test results of data analysis found significant differences in the control group with the 2000 mg/kgBB dose (p=0.011) and the 5000 mg/kgBB dose (p=0.001). However, no significant difference was found between the two treatment groups (2000 mg/kgBW and 5000 mg/kgBW doses). It can be concluded that there is an effect of giving ethanol extract of Syzygium myrtifolium walp leaves on the appearance of dilated liver sinusoids.
