Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems have decreased in function due to environmental degradation, low coordination between agencies, and lack of community involvement in its management, so that proper efforts are needed to ensure its sustainabble. The purpose of this study was to analyze the index and status of mangrove ecotourism sustainability, determine the attributes that affect the sustainability of mangrove ecotourism and formulate a mangrove ecotourism management strategy. The sample used in this research is the community, ecotourism visitors and stakeholders. The sampling method was determined using simple random sampling, accidental sampling and purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using observation techniques, remote sensing, interviews and literature study. The NDVI method with ArcGIS 10.3 software was used to analyze ecological conditions, while socio- economic and institutional conditions were analyzed using descriptive methods.Thesustainability status of the mangrove ecosystem was analyzed using of RAP- MForest software. The results showed that the sustainability status of mangrove ecotourism management on the ecological, social and institutional dimensions was quite good as indicated by the ecological dimension's sustainability index value of 60.40; social dimension 52.38; and institutional dimensions of 57.77.The research results for the economic dimension are included in the less sustainable category with a sustainability index of 50.14, while the sustainable management status of the Petetengoran mangrove ecotourism area is generally included in the fairly sustainable category.Mangrove ecotourism management strategies that must be implemented include increasing mangrove rehabilitation and its density level;creating community income opportunities while increasing tourist visits;resolve potential conflicts with other uses; increasing the role of mangrove groups;improve coordination among stakeholders and commitment of local government support for conservation.
