Abstract

Lombok Island is one of the disaster prone areas located in the back arc thrust zone, stretching along the northern part of Bali to Wetar Island. The back arc thrust zone was formed due to the infiltration of the Indo-Australian plate and the Flores Fault, this fault has been proven several times to be the cause of the earthquake. The effects caused by the earthquake are influenced by several factors, namely time, earthquake strength, location of the hypocenter, soil structure and building structure. Hypocenter analysis of an earthquake is needed to determine the position of the earthquake, the cause of the earthquake, and the factors that influence the results of the calculation of the position of the earthquake. The data used in the form of earthquake data that occurred on the island of Lombok (NTB) on December 22, 2018. The earthquake hypocenter was determined using the Grid Search method and the Geiger method. The combination of the two methods is quite effective in determining the location of an earthquake hypocenter. From the results of processing, the position of the earthquake was in the area of Central Lombok Island and included in the category of shallow earthquakes with an earthquake depth of 13.41 km located at coordinates 116.29◦LS and 8.57◦BT. The factors that influence the calculation results are in the form of accuracy when determining P and S waves, the number of phases used, the number of grids, and the initial t_obs value initiation
