Abstract

Weeds are plants whose existence is not desired by humans. We need alternative weed control efforts that are environmentally friendly. One alternative weed control is to use bioherbicides. Bioherbicides can be obtained from plant leaf extracts. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of leaf extract of bintaro (Cerbera odollam) and mango (Mangifera indica) in inhibiting the growth of purple nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus) and to determine which leaf extract was most effective in inhibiting the growth of nut grass. This research was conducted by maceration of leaf extract using 96% ethanol polar solvent. This study was designed using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments, namely control, bintaro leaf extract and mango leaf extract with a concentration of 50%. The results of this study indicate that the two extracts used have the same effectiveness as bioherbicides, because the treatment can inhibit the increase in the number of leaves, the growth of root length and changes in the color of the leaves of the purple nutgrass. In plant height and biomass variables, the treatment did not show a significant difference with the treatment without bioherbicides. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out further research on the potential of the two leaf extracts against other weeds and the use of leaf extracts of other plants as bioherbicides.
