Abstract

AbstractThe problem of character education in Indonesia today is increasingly concerning. Acts of bullying, fights between students, immoral acts, and even students' attitudes towards teachers seem to have no limits in carrying out impolite and polite actions. Therefore, in this article describes the relationship between character education and Indonesian language education. Character education is an important solution to overcome the moral decline among the younger generation, especially students. Indonesian language education is one of the media to shape and strengthen the character of students because several character values are contained in it. This study aims to describe how the role of Indonesian in character building; and how to form character-based Indonesian language learning. This research uses literature study method. The results of the study show that Indonesian is one of the media to shape and strengthen the character of students because several character values are contained in it and character-based forms of Indonesian language learning can be done by integrating through several character dimensions, namely: discipline, responsibility, tolerance, compassion. , courtesy, honesty, mutual respect, solidarity, exemplary. It can be concluded that the importance of the role of Indonesian can be seen from the sound of the third youth oath. The sound of the pledge proves that the acknowledgment upholds the language of unity, the Indonesian language, which has an extraordinary function in developing the personality and character of the nation. In addition, the formation and strengthening can be done by integrating through several character dimensions.Keywords:character education;Indonesian language;language norms
