Abstract
Chili production yield in Indonesia can be increased by implementing a plant breeding program. Several genetic parameters including diversity, heritability, correlation, and path analysis are needed so that selection can be more effective and efficient. This study aims to determine (1) the diversity of leaf and fruit characters in the M5 generation of curly red chili; (2) heritability of leaf and fruit characters in the M5 generation of curly red chili; (3) correlation between leaf and fruit characters and the production of M5 generation of curly red chili; and (4) direct and indirect effect of leaf and fruit characters on the yield of M5 generation of curly red chili. This research was conducted from November 2020 to June 2021 at Laboratorium Lapang Terpadu, Universitas Lampung. This study used the completely randomized design with 3 replications. The results showed that (1) all leaf and fruit characters had a low genotype diversity with high phenotypic diversity; (2) moderate heritability was found in the characters of generative stomata length, sample fruit weight, fruit length, number of sample seeds and total fruit weight, while the greenish character of vegetative leaves, vegetative stomata density, vegetative stomata length, greenness of generative leaves, generative stomata density, and fruit diameter showed low heritability; and (3) A very significant positive correlation was found in the character of the weight of sample fruit and the length of sample fruit. The length of sample fruit with the number of sample seeds, the weight of sample fruit with the number of sample seeds, the weight of sample fruit with the total fruit weight, the fruit length with the number of sample seeds, the fruit length with the total fruit weight, the number of sample seeds with the total fruit weight, and vegetative stomata density with greenness of generative leaves (4) There is a correlation value and a direct effect that is both positive between the characters of vegetative stomata density, generative stomata length, sample fruit weight, sample fruit length, sample fruit diameter, and number of seeds sampled on total fruit weight.
