Abstract

Marketing channels have an important role in the crab trade system. The purpose of this study is to examine the marketing channels of crabs in the east coast of Lampung Province, Indonesia. Collecting data through interviews using questionnaires and observation. Determination of respondents using purposive sampling method. Then, the collected data is analyzed descriptively to explain the small crab marketing channels in the area. The results show that there are several marketing channels that could basically be categorized into two groups, namely the first: the small crab marketing channel with the final product in the form of pasteurization / cans involving the crab processing unit, the second: the crab marketing channel that is received by consumers in fresh condition, without going through the canning process in the crab processing unit. In this case, the most profitable marketing channel for fishermen to pasteurized crabs is the channel from fishermen - crab processing units - agents of exporters - overseas consumers. Furthermore, the most profitable marketing channel for fishermen for crabs in fresh condition is the channel from fishermen-local markets-local consumers. Therefore, to increase fishermen's profits, it is necessary to optimize the role of KUB (Kelompok Usaha Bersama / Joint Business Group) in order to strengthen the bargaining position of fisherman members in marketing crabs
