Abstract

Ijen Volcano Complex is a geothermal prospect located in Bondowoso Regency, East Java. The geothermal system of Ijen Volcano is characterized by the craters of acid-coated lakes and high-temperature solfatara. Some of the rocks are altered near Mount Kukusan and a cluster of Blawan hot springs in the northern part of the caldera. Magnetic measurements were carried out at 175 points spread inside the caldera covering the crater of Mount Ijen to Mount Merapi. Anomalies in total magnetic intensity are obtained through the correction of IGRF standards and diurnal variations. Reduce to pole method (RTP) is applied by a geomagnetic inclination of about -32°. In general, the results showed that high magnetic anomalies are associated with fault lines that result in the formation of new volcanoes in the south, while low magnetic anomalies are adjacent to Ijen craters and Mount Merapi in the east. Low anomalies are interpreted by two possible influences of demagnetization of rocks due to thermal contact or the influence of remanent rocks of a certain geological age resulting in polarity reversal. The anomaly of high total magnetic intensity in the regional component is 50 to 114 nT and the low anomaly is in the range of -850 to -750 nT, this is interpreted that the potential for hot rock in the Ijen Volcano Complex is spread out according to the presence of a caldera and young volcanic pathways. The prospect of hot rocks correlates with young volcanic rock formations and magmatic intrusion resulting from the process of formation of quaternary-aged volcanoes
