Abstract

The huge number of urbanization of urban areas impacts to the high number of converting of green urban areas to build-up areas. This condition leads to unsustainable development in urban areas due to a lack of green open space(GOS) to provide ecosystem services. To date, in the effort to increase the role of GOS as a provider of ecosystem services, the concept of integrating green open spaces, called green infrastructure (GI), is essential. In an effort to achieve optimum advantages of GI, It is essential to develop GI that concerning to the local characteristic of Bandar Lampung. Having said that, this article aims to arrange the development principles of GOS as a part of GI towards the sustainable development of Bandar Lampung. These principles could be a fundamental guideline for local government to arrange sustainable development policies. The descriptive- Quantitative method is employed in this research. In order to describe facts, this method strives to unfold the existing phenomena comprehensively, relate to statistic data, to obtain the actual and systematic results. Bandar Lampung, current condition, has several typologies of GI, which are conservation areas, public green areas, agriculture green areas, and urban parks. In accordance with the typology of GI and local characteristics of Bandar Lampung, thus the fundamental development principles of GOS as a part of GI could be adopted are conserving the urban environmental area, integrated and connected development of each of GOS,disaster mitigation, climate change adaptation, health, wellbeing and enhancing the urban aesthetic.
