Abstract

Curly disease in chili plants greatly decrease chili production in Indonesia. The vector of the curly disease virus is aphids (Aphis sp.), therefore to suppress the spread of this disease it is necessary to reduce the aphids population as low as possible. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the aphids population (Aphis sp.) and the intensity of the chili pepper curl virus (Pepper Leaf Curl Virus) and suppress the aphids population (Aphis sp.). The method used was survey and insecticide application on farmers' land in Kemiri District, Purworejo Regency, Central Java from May to September 2018. The results showed that the population density of aphids (Aphis sp.) had a significant effect on the intensity of curly virus attacks. The intensity of the curly virus attack is quite high, especially plants that have been harvested several times. The application of insecticides can suppress the aphids population and reduce the intensity of the curly virus attack. Keywords: aphids, curly virus
