Abstract
Fermented tapioca produced from the previous research has the characteristic better than native tapioca. This research was to apply the fermented tapioca as an excipient in making paracetamol tablet with the addition of carrier material hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) to form a pragelatinized mix. The tablet making was using wet granulation process. The purpose of this study was to determine the formulation of the mix and evaluate the physical properties of paracetamol tablets. The concentration used in this study is P1 = Fermented Tapioca: HPMC (100%: 0%); P2 = Fermented Tapioca: HPMC (97.5%: 2.5%); P3 = Fermented tapioca: HPMC (95%: 5%); P4 = Fermented Tapioca: HPMC (92.5%: 7.5%) and P5 = Fermented Tapioca: HPMC (90%: 10%), then the data from the observations are analyzed statistically using ANOVA and DMRT further tests. The results showed that the P3 formulation, with 95% fermented starch concentration and 5% HPMC was the best formulation because it produced the best physical properties of paracetamol tablets. This study also shows that fermented tapioca can be used as an alternative filler for wet granulation tablet,.
