Abstract

Megengan tradition in Taman Fajar Village, sub district Purbolinggo, East Lampung Regency. To find out the implementation of Megengan tradition in the Desa Taman Fajar community this study was conducted with descriptive method and qualitative approach. Data collection was obtained through, interviews, observation, and documentation. result from this study show that the Megengan is a ritual for self purification and strengths their faith before performing fasting. The ritual begins with two preparation namely the obligatory Bathing and the pilgrimage to send prayer to relative and ancentors. This tradition is held a day before Ramadhan night but in Taman Fajar the tradition is held a week before Ramadhan. By doing this tradition the villagers believe they will get a blessing, their intention will be strengthened in performing fasting, and their fear of bad luck and disturbances during fasting will disappear.
