Abstract

In this research, co-pyrolysis of palm oil and cassava tubers mixture with the ratio of oil: tubers of 3:1 (v/m) was studied using protonated zeolite-A as catalyst. The zeolite-A was prepared from rice husk silica and food grade aluminum foil and then converted into protonated zeolite by ion exchange treatment using ammonium nitrate solutions with the concentrations of 2.0; 2.5; 3; and 3.5 M. Formation of protonated zeolites were confirmed using XRF analyses. The zeolites were then applied as catalyst for pyrolysis experiments, and the liquid fuel produced were analysed using GC-MS technique. The experimental results indicate that the liquid fuel with the highest biogasoline fraction 78% was produced using protonated zeolite with ammonium nitrate solution of 3.5 M as catalyst.
