Abstract
Community perception is a response or environmental knowledge from a group of individuals who interact with each other because they have values, norms, ways and procedures are a shared need in the form of a customary system that is continuous and bound by a shared identity obtained through the interpretation of sensory data. Research on the type of elephant feed according to community perception has been carried out in the village of Plang Ijo in the Way Kambas National Park Area. The study was conducted in March 2020 to April 2020, with the aim of finding out the perception and socio-economic characteristics, fora fauna and aspects of community culture related to elephant feed types. Data collection was carried out by structured interviews, respondents were chosen deliberately (purposive sampling). Based on data and research results show that this type of feed needs to be enriched because the level of preference of the elephant is high, so the recommendations relating to the conservation of the first elephant that must be done first are habitat enrichment with elephant feed type of kalanjana grass, coconut fronds, sugar cane, rice, sonokeling, papaya, songke, weeds, bamboo / sugar cane, corn sheath, banana fronds, water spray and swamp grass. Then if there is a conflict between the elephant and the community we need to do the conflict mitigation expulsion by protecting the agricultural area from the elephant, the third is the need to increase the understanding of the community related to elephant conservation, elephant habitat, so that the elephant is not considered a pest to the community. The majority of respondents are in the productive age class and work as lading farmers with the most recent high school education. Most of the respondents wanted that the type of elephant feed is not only kalanjana grass which is cultivated but other types of feed must also be cultivated in the area. There are 4 types of flora that grow and breed in the Way Kambas National Park area, such as sugar palm, sempur, sonokeling and pulai, the most dominant plants and are always seen by the surrounding community, such as Sonokeling. Some of the wild animals found in the forests of Waykambas National Park consist of families of mammals, aves, primates, birds, and so on. From the results of research by conducting interviews with the public, researchers obtained 5 types of fauna in TNWK such as the Sumatran Elephant, Long-tailed Monkey, Sumatran Rhino, Beruk and Menjangan. fauna often found in TNWK are Sumatran Elephants, Long-tailed Monkeys, Menjangan.
