Abstract

Repong Damar is one of the successful forest management icons and passed down from generation to generation in Lampung. There are concerns about the biodiversity and community awareness which make this research important. The purposes of this study were to determine the biodiversity of flora and to analyze community awareness about the regeneration of maintenance of damar. The research locations were in Pekon Pahmungan and Pekon Gunung Kemala, Krui District, Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung Province, Indonesia. The method used the Vegetation Analysis method with 25 measuring plots in Pahmungan and 25 measuring plots on Gunung Kemala from February to July 2021. The interview method was carried out on key persons. The results showed that there were 21 species of trees in Pahmungan and 10 species of trees in Gunung Kemala in the tree phase. Analyzes were also performed in the seedling, sapling, poles. The Importance Value Index (INP) of Damar trees in Pekon Pahmungan was 121.50 and in Pekon Gunung Kemala was 182.70. The results of the interview indicated the need to increase community awareness in the maintenance of resin trees continuously carried out by the government, universities and multi-stakeholders on Pesisir Barat. The legacy of the resin tree is still being carried out from generation to generation, but currently, the next generation are starting to switch to other livelihoods. It is slowly, their family's resin trees can be easily sold. The current generation needs to train their current generation to become resin tree climbers to harvest resin. The children of the owners of repong damar now, need to be recorded and examined whether they have the same skills as their parents in climbing and harvesting resin. As the alternative, the current generation has begun to be introduced to technological innovation to obtain resin without climbing the tree. Keywords: Repong damar; Pesisir barat; Biodiversity; Community awareness
