Abstract
The population explosion of the maize planthopper is a new phenomenon in Indonesia, especially in Lampung Province. This pest attack has caused the maize crop to become hopperburn and caused crop failure. This study aims to determine: (1) the effect of several control techniques on the maize planthopper population, (2) effective control techniques in reducing the maize planthopper pest population, and (3) the number of oviposed leaves. This research was conducted in research field in Muara Putih Village Natar, South Lampung and at the Laboratory of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. The treatments were arranged in a randomized block design (RBD) with 6 treatments, namely the application of synthetic chemical insecticide chlorpyrifos + 2 ml / l sipermethrin, application of synthetic chemical insecticide 2 ml / l, application of Tithonia diversifolia as pesticide botanical 3 ml / l, application of Metarhizium anisopliae as entomopathogenic fungi 20 g / l, the application of mechanical control for clear mica adhesive plastic traps measuring 2.5 m x 0.5 m, and control, each treatment was repeated three times. The results showed that the maize planthopper pest population that had been applied once with the five types of control techniques was significantly lower than the control in observations 2, 3, and 14 days after application applied a significant effect on the population of maize leafhoppers on each observation day. Of all the control techniques, the application of synthetic chemical insecticide chlorpyrifos + sipermetrin and synthetic chemical insecticide as active ingredient lambda cyhalotrin was effective in reducing the population of maize planthoppers. The number of leaves oviposed to the leafhoppers fluctuated greatly depending on the type of application technique and the time of observation
