Abstract
A new naturally isoflavonoid dimer compound has been successfully isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the roots of Indonesian Sesbania grandiflora plant. We reported herein the isolation and characterization of a new biisoflavonoid with (4→6) inter-isoflavanyl linkage, namely sesbagrandiflorain D (1). The structure elucidation of sesbagrandiflorain D was performed using 1D and 2D NMR, UV spectroscopy, and HRESI mass spectrometry as well as the comparison with the previous reported data. This compound was isolated for the first time from a natural source, it has been previously reported as a synthetic compound, which is synonymous with 3,4- trans-4-[(3S)-7,2’-dihydroxy-4’-methoxyisoflavan-6-yl]-7,2’-dihydroxy-4’-methoxyisoflavan1. This study indicates that the roots of S. grandiflora could be used as a potential natural source for future development.
