Abstract

Free radicals are molecules that have unstable and reactive properties, because they have one or more unpaired electrons. Free radicals can attack vulnerable compounds such as, lipids and proteins, which will eventually cause harmful diseases. Free radicals threaten the health of the body due to its reactive and unstable nature, free radicals react with the closest molecules after entering the body, and produce other free radicals, and eventually become a chain reaction that can threaten the health of the body. Soy (Glycine max L) has antioxidant compounds that can react with free radicals and stop the pace of free radicals to react with the molecules in the body, namely isoflavones and other compounds, such as proteins, fats, and Vitain A, C and D. Soybeans (Glycine Max L) with its antioxidant content of isoflavones proved to be instrumental in the healing of diseases caused by free radicals, as well as being able to protect the body from free radicals. Objective: To know the potential of soy (Glycine max L) against free radical catcher that enters the body. Methods: Using literary studies from both national and international journals by summarizing the topic of the discussion and comparing the results presented in the article. Result: isoflavone can decrease total cholesterol and LDL in the blood. Not only is it effective in animal trials, the isoflavone effect is also effective on a large scale in humans, namely being able to lower total cholesterol, VLDL, LDL, and increase HDL. Isoflavone is also used in the treatment of acute diarrhea of children. Conclusion: Isoflavone is an antioxidant compound that plays a role in healing the disease caused by free radicals, and is able to protect the body from the inclusion of free radicals.
