Abstract

Water birds are one of the ecological birds that depend on wetlands. Wetland is an ecosystem that has various ecological functions that are important for air birds such as nesting sites, breeding grounds, foraging and various other daily activities. The purpose of this study was to study the distribution patterns and abundance of air birds in the wetlands area in Margasari Village, Labuhan Maringgai District, East Lampung Regency. This research was carried out in February-March for 12 days with three main observation days and nine days of repetition. Data was collected at three observation locations, namely in the area of rice fields, ponds and mangrove forests in the morning at 06.00-09.00 and in the afternoon at 15.00-16.00. Identification of bird species is carried out directly by using books about birds in Sumatra, Java, Bali and Kalimantan. This study uses the method of calculating points and descriptive analytic data by describing the analysis of the distribution patterns and abundance of air birds found at the observation site. The results of the study show that the species of birds in the air are clustered in all collection locations, except in the location of ponds in the species of common kingfhisher (Alcedo atthis), which have regular distribution patterns. The abundance of waterfowl species is low on average in all study sites, high abundance in javan pond-heron (Ardeola speciosa) and little egret (Egretta garzetta) at rice field locations, high abundance in little egret species (Egretta garzetta) and little black cormorants (Phalacrocorax sulcirotris) at the farm location, moderate abundance in the type of glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus). Keywords: aerial birds, wetlands, distribution patterns, abundance.
