Weeds have a negative effect on crops through a reduction in crop yields. Herbicide ingredient namely glyphosate is widely used by farmers to control weeds worldwide. The effectiveness of glyphosate as an herbicide depends on the weather, in which the effectiveness will drop during rainy day because of rainwash. The objective of our works was to investigate the influence of rainfall intensity on the effectiveness of glyphosate for controlling three different weeds (Ageratum conyzoides, Rottboellia exaltata, and Cyperus rotundus). There were six treatments, which were arranged in a randomized block design with 8 replications each. In this research, the treatments were comprised of various levels of rainfall intensities which were: no rain (I1), 5 mm/hour (I2), 10 mm/hour (I3), 20 mm/hour (I4), 40 mm/hour (I5), and control (I6) (no herbicide no rain). The rainfall intensity simulation was applied 30 minutes after herbicide applications. The results showed that the effectiveness of herbicide decreased as the increase of rainfall intensity, though on an increased intensity herbicide was still able to reduce the weeds on a longer time. The effectiveness of herbicide varied on different weeds. Up to rainfall intensity of 40 mm/hour, herbicide was still able to control weeds, but the rate of destruction was only 20-60%. The findings implied that the weather information on high resolution (hours) would be important for farmers, and we recommend that the farmers should be trained properly to use weather data from the local meteorology office.
