Abstract

ABSTRACTForthesakeofreinforcingthelocalknowledge(thatseemstobeabandoned bylocalcommunityofWestLampungthemselves)andtomakecorrectionsagainst agroforestrymalpracticesaswellasofaccommodatingtothepoorperformanceof extensionprogramsonrechargeareaofWestLampung(includingofmedialackingof extension),wehavedevelopedtheentertainmentmediaofpictorialstorybooksof coffeeagroforestry. Themediaweredesignedespeciallyforthelowliteratecommunity(Nurhaidaetal.,2004) toaffirmthetaoofknowledgeofthefourtribesdwellintherechargearea:Lampungese, Semendonese,SundaneseandSundaneseofvillagesofWayMengaku,Sukananti, SidomakmurandGunungTerangrespectively(seeNurhaidaetal.,(2005). Therearefourlanguageseditioninaccordancewiththelocallymothertonguesofthe fourtribesplusIndonesiantoaccommodatetheothertribesexistinWestLampung. DeskactivitieswereconductedattheLaboratoryofMultimedia,Departmentof CommunicationScience,TheUniversityofLampungIndonesia.Mediapretestingwere conductedtwiceinAugust-September2005tomeasurethevariablesofattraction,self involvement,acceptabilityandcomprehensionofthemediainaccordancewith Bertrand’ssuggestion(1978).Betweenthetwoandthesecondofthemediapretesting, therehadbeenconductedthemediaimprovements. Theresearchshowedthattheentertainmentmediahavebeenuseduptobealearning mediafortheproposeofextensionprogramintherechargeareasuccessfully.Thisclaim issupportedbythehigheffectivenessofthefiveeditions:(Lampungese,Semendonese, Javanese,SundaneseandIndonesianof85,89,88,89,and86%repectively)that brookthroughaggaintstheseverelyheaviedbarrieroflowlitteracy:27,44,39,77,dan 88wordspersecondrespectively. Itisstronglyrecommendedthat:(1)reproducethemediaanddisseminateinto communitydwellontherechargeofWestLampungtoreinforcethetaoofknowledge, and(2)conductthesimilarresearchonotherrechargeareas.Katakunci:bukucerita bergambar,mediapembelajaran
