Abstract

This quasi experiment was aimed to find out the effectiveness of problem based learning model towards student’s mathematical communication skill. The population of this research was all of eight grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Gading Rejo in academic year of 2018/2019 as many as 218 students that were distributed into 7 classes. The samples of this research were students of VIII5 as many as 32 students and VIII3 class as many as 30 students that were chosen by purposive sampling technique. The design of this research was the static-group pretest-posttest group design. The analysis data which used was Mann-Whitney U test and proportion test. According of this result so that problem based learning is not effective towards student’s mathematical communication skill. Keyword: communication skill, effectiveness, problem based learning
