Abstract

The Effect of Problem Based Learning Models toward Students' Scientific Literacy Abilityat the Aspect of Competency. This study aims to describe the effect of the use of the Problem Based Learning model toward the students’ scientific literacy at the first grade of the Natar First Senior High School. Sample of the research was 70students at the first grade selected through cluster random sampling techniques with a quasi-experimental method by using a pretest-posttest design of a non-equivalent group. The instrument used in this study was a test of scientific literacy ability in the written form for ten test items in which each test item follows the constructive pattern of the Program for International Assessment (PISA) with the main topic of environmental change. While, Pretest-posttest and n-Gain values were analyzed by Independent Sample t-test.From the statistical test results, we can see that H0 is rejected, meaning there is a significant difference between the average scoreof the students’ scientific literacy ability in the experimental class and those in the control class after the Problem Based Learning model was applied. From that result, we can see that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning model toward students' scientific literacy abilityat the aspect of competency.
