Abstract

Lynde Type-A Zeolite (LTA) is a zeolite classified as low Si / Al ratio. LTA Zeolite has various uses, including adsorbents, catalysts, membranes, ion exchangers, and molecular sieves. LTA zeolite as molecular sieve has a high dehydration ability so it can be used to dehydrate water in a bioethanol-water mixture to obtain bioethanol which is in accordance with FGE (Fuel Grade Ethanol), which is > 99% purity. LTA Zeolite can adsorb water in bioethanol due to the hydrophilic nature of LTA Zeolite . This hydrophilic property is obtained because LTA Zeolite has a low Si content so that the LTA Zeolite has high affinity for water molecules. The sources of Silica and Alumina used are from Natural Lampung Zeolite (ZAL) from South Lampung. This research examines the effect of aging time in order to obtain a high relative percentage of crystallinity of LTA zeolites. The variation of aging time in this study was 0 hours, 15 hours, 30 hours, and 45 hours. The zeolite synthesis stage was carried out in a water bath using the hydrothermal step change temperature method, which was at 90oC for 1.5 hours and 95oC for 2.5 hours. Synthesis results were analyzed using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), FTIR (Fourier Transmission Infra Red), BET (Brunaur, Emmet And Teller), and XRD (X-Ray Diffracton). Based on FTIR analysis, the synthesis has the characteristic of LTA Zeolite , that is double rings at wave number 550-600 cm-1, the highest relative percentage of crystallinity obtained from XRD analysis results is 66.15%, the results of SEM analysis show the morphology of LTA Zeolite in cubic form and based on BET analysis, the third form of adsorption isotherm is obtained.
